HISTORY OF THE COMPANY

Created in 1944 in Algiers (Algeria), HENNEDROG has been in Marseille since 1962,
this large port city on the Mediterranean, the doorway to Asia and the East.
Since 1975, under the current management (the BENSOUSSAN family),
the company breathed a new lease of life into this millennia-old product
with uncontested advantages, and today it is well-reputed and recognised.

Today, HENNEDROG is one of the leading manufacturers and importers in Europe.

BOTANICAL GEOGRAPHICAL ORIGINS

Henna is in the family Lythraceae, genus Lawsonia, species Inermis. It is an plant that can reach 4 to 5 metres in height with small oval leaves, capsule-shaped fruit and fragrant flowers (see above). Only the crushed leaves are used to make powder.

It is generally accepted that Henna originated from iran. Today, it is cultivated in many regions of the world and the main producing countries currently are: India, Pakistan, Egypt and Iran.
North African countries (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Lybia) produce small quantities of henna for their own use.
USE
Cosmetic use of henna dates back to ancient times: in Egypt at the time of the Pharaohs, in Persia, in the Indies, the Hebrews and the Muslims all used henna cosmetically.
Today in the Western world, thanks to a return to natural products and the trend for ecologically sound organic products and the use of treatment cosmetics, henna is now considered a modern colouring too.
